Znate li kako biste najbolje privukli njihovu pozornost? Hook ’em!

A PRESENTATION usually consists of three main parts:

  1. INTRODUCTION/OPENING2. BODY/MIDDLE3. CONCLUSION

But, did you know… that the first three minutes of a presentation are the most important? Do you know how to grab your audience’s attention?

How interesting does this sound: ‘Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! It’s a pleasure to be with you here today. My name is… and I am in charge of… We are here today to…’

This is perfectly all right but what you really want to do is…

make them laugh…
shock them…
provoke them…
bring back memories…
you want to hook your audience!

Here are some good hooks:

  1. QUESTIONS / RHETORICAL QUESTIONS
Raise your hand if you’ve ever…? I wonder how many of you have ever…?

  2. ELICITING MEMORIES / CREATING THE ATMOSPHERE
Do you remember your first presentation? What was it about? What were you worried about? What was the reaction of your colleagues/audience?

  3. FUNNY (PERSONAL) STORIES / JOKES / ANECDOTES

  4. You know, … When I think about … I’m reminded of … 2. Have you ever been in the situation where … I remember when …

  • PROBLEMS

  • Suppose/Imagine … 2. Have you ever wondered why it is that… You have? Well, if I could show / tell you … … would you be interested?

  • AMAZING/PROVOCATIVE FACTS

  • Did you know that… 2. According to the latest study / research … 3. Statistics show that … 4. I read somewhere the other day that …

  • QUOTATIONS
‘He who will not economize will have to agonize.’ Confucius

  • SUSPENSE
For instance, you can walk on with a cardboard box and place it on the stage – but don’t tell people what it is there for.

  • VIDEO CLIPS
They have to be less than 60 seconds long. You can use, e.g. well-known commercials.

  • CARTOONS, TRIVIA, RIDDLES, PROVERBS, ETC.

‘Many a man owes his success to his first wife, and his second wife to his success.’
How many of you hate going to meetings? Just about everybody, right?
Suppose your budget was cut by 50% tomorrow…
I remember when I was a little boy selling stickers to my schoolmates… always charging them more than they were worth…
Imagine yourself in Hawaii, lying on a beautiful sandy beach, a gentle breeze blowing…
Did you know that Japanese companies spend four times more on entertaining clients in a year than the entire GDP of Bulgaria? That’s twice Colombia’s total foreign debt. You could buy General Motors for the same money.
    Money doesn’t grow on trees.
Committee: a group of men who individually can do nothing but as a group decide that nothing can be done.

KISS = Keep it short and simple!
